Scholarship Description

O’brien Fellowship In Public Service Journalism helps new professionals dig deep while mentoring student journalists. The program honors Marquette alumni Alicia and Perry O’Brien.

A prestigious program, the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism gives experienced and aspiring journalists the chance to delve deeply into an important, in-depth reporting assignment of their choosing. This fellowship, which is hosted by Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s Marquette University, offers journalists a singular chance to spend an academic year investigating and creating a piece of journalism that could have a big impact on society. A substantial stipend is given to fellows to cover living expenses, travel expenses, and research expenditures. This allows the fellows to concentrate entirely on their investigative projects, free from the daily demands of the media. Fellows get access to Marquette University’s resources, such as knowledgeable teachers, research materials, and student journalists who can help with the project, in addition to financial support.

In addition to producing journalism with a significant impact, the O’brien Fellowship In Public Service Journalism seeks to develop the next generation of journalists by working together and serving as mentors to promote an ethical and public service-oriented culture in the industry.

For the 2024/25 O’brien Fellowship In Public Service Journalism, the application portal are now opened.
