Young surgeons from nations other than the United States or Canada who have shown a significant interest in teaching and research are eligible for International Guest Scholarships from the American College of Surgeons. The scholars will have the chance to visit clinical, teaching, and research facilities in the United States and Canada as well as to attend and actively participate in the educational opportunities and events of the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress thanks to the $10,000 scholarships.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the International Guest Scholarships at the American College of Surgeons, USA 2023-24:

Candidates must be recent graduates of medical schools who have also finished their surgical training.
A full application must be submitted by a candidate who is at least 35 years old but under 50.
Applications must be submitted from the applicant’s expected permanent address. After completing all formal training (including fellowships and scholarships), applications will only be approved for processing when the candidates have worked in surgical practice, teaching, or research for a minimum of one year in their desired permanent location.
According to the requirements of their nation, applicants must have shown a dedication to teaching and/or research.
Early-career professionals are seen as more appropriate than those holding senior academic positions.
The College’s online application form, which is offered to applicants, must be properly filled and submitted. The application must be presented in English, as must any supporting documentation. A curriculum vitae alone cannot be submitted.
In addition to submitting three complete publications (reprints or manuscripts) of their choosing from that list, applicants are required to give a list of all of their publications.
Candidates who have not already received training or a surgical fellowship in the United States or Canada may be given preference.
Applications require three coworkers to submit independently written letters of recommendation. One letter has to come from the department head where they have an academic post or a local Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
