The Richard Hart Bursary aims to provide access to higher education and support individuals in realizing their aspirations.

Richard Hart was a lawyer, historian, political activist, and labor unionist. Richard, a Jamaican native, was engaged in political and labor union matters in Jamaica and the Caribbean. In 1938, he joined as a founding member of the People’s National Party in Jamaica. Later, he served as Grenada’s Attorney General during the People’s Revolutionary Government and ran the progressive daily The Mirror in Guyana. He later established himself as a renowned historian and settled in Bristol. In 2004, he received an honorary doctorate from UWE Bristol.
