Brief Description

The University of Leicester has chosen to give ERC Funded PhD Studentships in Childhood in Iron and Viking Age Scandinavia for the academic year 2022/2023 in order to assist students in completing their study in the UK.

The PhD candidate will design and carry out a research program on the variety of childhood experiences and roles in Iron and Viking Age Scandinavia. This will entail gathering primary data, analyzing that data, and producing a PhD dissertation.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the ERC PhD Studentships at the University of Leicester, UK 2022-23:

  • Previous research experience with the Body-Politics project’s eras, areas, and/or themes.
  • Working knowledge of primary archaeological sources of evidence, such as skeletal remains, artefacts, and/or excavation data.
  • The ability to read a Scandinavian language or the willingness to study one.
  • Prior research in either late prehistoric/early medieval Northern Europe OR archaeological approaches to children.
