The Fogarty International Center (FIC) and several cooperating Institutes and Centers at the National Institutes of Health sponsor the HBNU Fellowship, which provides pre- and post-doctoral candidates from the United States and lower-middle-income countries (LMICs) with opportunities for training in global health research (NIH).

The program offers chances to develop a fresh group of researchers, teachers, and experts in global health who are ready to take on the industry’s newest difficulties. To improve health equality for communities worldwide, the program offers fellows a 12-month, supervised research fellowship in innovative global health research.

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Fogarty Global Health Fellowship at Harvard University, USA 2023-24:

• For Predoctoral Fellowship:
  • A citizen or lawful resident of the United States.
  • Enrolled in a recognized doctorate program (MD, PhD, or equivalent) in nursing, public health, law, business, design, engineering, education, medicine, nutrition, or another related field.
  • Students pursuing a career in the health professions who desire to take a year or more off from school in order to pursue full-time research training before finishing their official training programs are also qualified.
  • Willing to commit 40 hours per week to the research fellowship at the foreign site for 11–12 months starting in July.
• For Post-Doctoral Fellowship:
  • A citizen or lawful resident of the United States.
  • Had earned a PhD, MD, DDS, or similar doctorate degree from a recognized institution as of the start date of the training term. DMD, DC, DO, DVM, OD, DPM, ScD, EngD, DrPH, DNSc, DPT, PharmD, ND (Doctor of Naturopathy), DSW, PsyD, and a doctorate in nursing research are just a few examples of doctorates that are comparable.
  • Willing to commit 40 hours per week to the research fellowship at the foreign site for 11–12 months starting in July.
