Another Win for the Blacks as Mickey Joseph Emerges First African Head Coach of University of Nebraska’s Football Team

A win for the blacks Emerges as Mickey Joseph, a former football player for the Nebraska Cornhuskers has become the school’s first-ever black head coach.

Mickey Joseph

The football squad at the 1896-founded University of Nebraska was started in 1900. Since that time, none of its sports teams had an African American coach, hence Joseph created history as the first.

When we dig deep to learn more about Mickey Joseph, we discovered that he is a native of Marrero, Louisiana and that he attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln where, from 1988 to 1991, he played quarterback for the football team.

Since 1995, Joseph has coached numerous high school and collegiate football teams. In December 2021, he accepted a position as associate head coach and wide receivers coach at the University of Nebraska. Following the dismissal of the previous coach, Scott Frost, he was recently named interim head coach.

According to Joseph, his main goal is to “give confidence” to the players who have become accustomed to losing.

“The boys, the players, that we make sure they’re OK,” Joseph stated in a statement to THE ATHLETIC.

“This is about Nebraska football,” he said in conclusion. It is larger than both I and anyone else.
